Relatives of Suresh Raj in KU: Everybody Here

Highhandedness of Kathmandu University vice-chancellor Suresh Raj Sharma and Registrar Sitaram Adhikary has become unbearable now. Sharma has appointed his brother Mukunda Upadhyay as chief of Management Section after giving him the position of the administrative chief; while daughter Sijan Dhungel has been appointed as manager. Considering that the daughter would be lonely, her friend Jyoti Pradhan has been also appointed at the same post.

Vice chancellor has his new nephew Manish pokhrel as chief of computer department while his brother Dipak has been appointed an officer in Examination Section. Mukunda Upadhyay's brother in-law has been appointed as an officer in Medical School. Sharma has not only appointed his brother in-law Damodar Gautam as professor, but even appointed grand child of his maternal uncle, Mr. Umesh Koirala, as personal assistant for a long time. Moreover, he has managed to get his brother's son, nephew and his own daughter study MBBS in Manipal Medical college. Having appointed brother Dinesh Dhungle in Dhulikhel hospital, he has arbitrarily promoted a son of Registrar, Brijesh Adhikari, after sending him on study leave for a number of time. Another son of registrar is also brought into KU and now appointed there after creating a new post of manager.

Sharma has managed to send his sister-in-law’s son to Japan for training after appointing him as senior technician in computer filed whereas nephew Nabindra as accout officer, neighbour and cousin Kumar Baral as account manager and Uncle Tikadutta as deputy registrar are being taken care of at the cost of KU's resources. Similarly, brother Dev Raj Adhikary has been promoted as Library officer. And another ever-familiar brother Radheshyam Adhikari has been appointed as legal advior for a long time. After Radheshyam, another brother Sunil Adhikary too has been appointed as legal advisor. Moreover, after getting Radheshyam's daughter enrolled in MBBS in Manipal, son-in-law is also appointed in Dhulikhel Medical Insittute (Affiliated to KU). Neighbour Bhola Thapa has bee appointed at undeserving post.

Sharma, who has untimely promoted Daniel Tuladhar, son of Dean Bhadraman Tuladhar, has resorted to unhealthy practice of promoting his yes-men and informers by sending them abroad time and again on paid study leaves. Moreover, the appointment of spouses of such informers and yes-men in KU at various positions have always been a subject of discussion amongst the faculties and other staffs.

Irregularity in Teacher's appointment process

There are many instances of appointing their own people at their own will. Moreover, they have resorted to practice of giving permanent position and promotion during times when there was no government.

The administrative block is filled with peoples like cook of Sharma's father to the in-laws of his bother. However, there are many instances of qualified teachers and other staffs, who are not toady and do not resort to buttering of Sharma, having been terminated from KU by creating objectionable rules.

These victimized teachers feel that their exploitation after having spent the entire working period in KU will be paid back in time.

There are repeated instances of discernible and known cases of exploitation of qualified and courageous teachers by the administration just to prove that they are all power. And, these issues have never been investigated.

Moreover, it is now clear amongst all the teachers and employees that Sharma, who has tried to destroy the teachers' forum by employing his henchmen along with intimidation and inducements, do always listen to his incapable relatives and so called higher ranking officials at the time of admitting new students. Consequently, the bitter reality of qualified students not getting admission in KU always becomes the talking point during every academic year.

Financial Irregularities

Though, the university was established by an act of parliament, they are determined to continue themselves as vice chancellor and registrar of Katmandu University for life and they have surreptitiously developed a machinery to realize this goal. .

Who ever comes to power, they turn into their agents while keeping the public in dark on the financial opaqueness. Similarly, they never discuss financial issues with teachers and staffs. Though they claim that they have been auditing the accounts with "A" class auditor, they have clandestinely derived undue benefit. These instances show that they have some vested interests.

Having erected palatial buildings at Janakpur, Baneshwor, and Dhulikhel, Sharma is now busy residing in Dhulikhel Campus premise itself while getting him involved in game of commission in the construction of different types of buildings of Kathmandu University. Moreover, it is quite clear that millions of asistances from the government and financial supports from domestic and international donors would never be investigated.

There has been naked commercialization in the name of education in KU. Financial transactions are generally done by registrar and account manager. Moreover, Sharma, who has involved in dirty game of nepotism in the temple of education, Kathmandu University, must also be questioned when his brothers Madan Raj Sharma and Jalan Raj Sharma are atteding CIAA for corruption worth tens of crores. Thus, demanding an action on the elder brother, Dr. Suresh Raj Sharma, is both the responsibility and rights of all the Nepalis.
